Helvetica Response

The process of typography is much more complex then I could have imagined. I never thought how much work goes into creating a font. I also never thought about the importance of fonts in advertisements. It is true that fonts can sway an emotion or make you think a certain way towards something. It's crazy when you start to think about all those little things because in the end it does make a lot of sense. Where would we be without helvetica?!!?

Decasia Response

This film was very strange in the most chaotic of ways, though it was well organized. I was actually there for Bill Morrison's lecture, but I did not get to stay for Decasia because dinner at the Meyerhoff ends at 7:30 (movie started at 7). I did get to see Bill's short films and they were similar in style to the movie Decasia, which I had the privilege to see in class. The film was moody. It felt like a dream, but almost like a night mare. The music was well put with the scenes; it was a bundle of chaos wrapped up in harmony. Some how it fit together. Even though it may seem tedious to watch this film after a half hour, you cant look away from it. The film had a strangely intriguing rhythm between the sound and footage.

Article response

I thought it was quite interesting to know that replicas of original works were created by pupils as practice. The article went on too explain the history of replicating art....how it started with founding and stamping, then it moved to lithography, then photography and finally film. I never thought of photography and film as a form of replication till I read this article.
Why is replication such an important topic? Who takes the time to write an article about it?

Tradition is also an intriguing topic. Tradition varies from place to place, it molds into the idea of culture. It also changes throughout history as stated in the article, it is "extremely changeable". I would agree..
